Icarus in denial is my Bachelor project adressing the need for a shift in perception of the urgency and severity of climate change. This work emphasizes the dissonance between the current knowledge and findings (and the following implementations for our future) in the field and the speed and scale of the actions taken against climate change. To find a way to not only fight against but work with the reasons for this dissonance, several biases and mechanisms for denial were discussed and changes in perspectives were proposed.
To realise such an approach, I photogrametrically scanned four landscapes in the Swiss Alps to visualize the impact of climate change on real locations with abstracted animations. The photogrammetric scans are rendered as Gaussian Splats that were animated to recreate the experienced changes in the environment. The video was edited into a video in 2x 4k fomat because it was optimized for a wide, immersive screen setup I built for the presentation of this project.
